Attaching Documents/Images to Client Cards
You may have written a letter in Word, received a lab report, have a digital X-Ray, photo etc. and you want to add this to the client record.
As of Dec 2006 there are a couple of ways of doing this. The 1st method is common to all versions, please read over the others as you may find an easier option.
Note: In the examples below the text SERVER relates to the name of YOUR server
UnAllocated Documents
Select 'W' (Write Screen) from the animal's management record:
Then;
| Pre Dec 2006 | Add New Attachment |
| After Dec 2006 | New Attachment -> Use Unallocated Documents |
In both cases, this will bring up a selection box with all the
'unallocated' images/documents in it. These files are all in the
folder \\SERVER\premvet\sheets\new. You can place documents
there via Windows 'Drag and Drop' or you could create a shortcut on the
desktop.
Two ways:
Right click the folder 'new' and drag to your desktop - select 'create shortcut here'
or
Double click folder sheets
Right click and hold the folder 'new' and drag to your desktop - select 'create shortcut here'
In both cases you will have a folder 'Shortcut to new' on the Desktop - if you right click that and then Rename; you can call it images or another suitable name. Any images/document that you save or drop into that folder will appear in the 'Unallocated' folder mentioned earlier.
Now to add that to record card, select from the list:
Locate the document you have just saved (Should be the 1st on the list)
Adding the image/document
Use the 'Description' option the give the attachment a meaningfull description.
Select Attach
The document is now attached to the record card, you can use the Write -> Search option to recall this when needed.
Web Upload
Rather than use the Drag and Drop method above, you may wish to use your web browser to upload the file onto the Premvet server. On your home page you should have at the bottom a little box:
Enter the document path if you know it or just press 'Browse', you can then use the Windows 'File Upload' dialoge e.g.
Browse and select your document, you will be returned to the web page with the 'Document to Upload' filles in - select 'Upload Document'
See below for How to use the File Attacher.
Home / Common / Other Area
There are three other areas files can be deposited:
- Home Directory - If you have received a document via E-Mail,
saved a document from an application etc. the chances are it will
be in your 'Home Directory'. This area is unique and private to
just you.
- Common - There is a 'common' area that everyone can save,
leave or copy files to. As the name implies - anyone can use this.
- Other - A 'catch all' in case the document you want to load
has been saved somewhere weird.
See below for How to use the File Attacher.
Premvet File Attacher
There are many places on the Premvet Server you can use as a depository for files/document/images. Once you are happy with the image/document you may want to attach it directly onto the animal's record card. This gives you a central location for animal related documents.
To get the 'file' into premvet we use the File Attacher, on the 'W' screen, select New Attachment then Select Existing File, this will display a selection box like:
The option on them relate to the above location, Home, Common, Web, Other. The 'Premvet Dump Area' is the same as the UnAllocate Area' initially discussed.
When in the File Attacher you can use the following keys:
| <TAB> | The Tab key will jump between windows. |
| <SPACE> | The SpaceBar will select an option |
| Down Arrow | Move Down an option |
| Up Arrow | Move Up an option |
| Return | The Return key will continue |
To select, for example, one of the images we uploaded via the web,
- Use the <Down Arrow> to highlite 'Web Server'
- Use the <SpaceBar> to select it (a little X will appear)
- Press Return to go to the next step
If you want to Quit, press the TAB key till Cancel is selected and press Return) - The screen will show the initial folder on the left and the sub-folder with the details on the right
- Use the TAB key to jump the cursor over to the right hand box
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to highlite the document/image you are wanting to attach.
- PRESS THE SPACEBAR.
(Note: If you forget the Spacebar step you will get a 'cannot copy' message) - If we select, for example, the image 'eyesect.gif' then line on the bottom of
the selection box will show the full path e.g.
- Press TAB to get to the OK button
- Press RETURN to continue
You can now Add the Image as with the other options
